Are You A Carer?

Carers often tell us that they don’t think of themselves as a carer.  They are a husband, wife, son, daughter, neighbour or friend, selflessly supporting a loved one. While labels can be unhelpful, recognising yourself as an unpaid carer is important.

An unpaid carer is someone who provides care for someone else without receiving any payment. Unpaid carers can be any age and we offer specific support for young carers aged between 5 and 25. Carers typically help someone who is ill, disabled, older, has mental heather concerns or is experiencing addiction. Carers sometimes care for more than one person and one person can be cared for by more than one unpaid carer.

Whatever your caregiving role, the Carers Gateway is here to help. That might be practical help such as condition-specific advice or guidance on benefits. It might also be a listening ear from someone who understand the demands of caring for someone else.

The Carers Gateway is here for you. Get in touch today.
