About Carers Gateway

What We Do

Carers Gateway South Ayrshire  provides information, support and advice to unpaid carers across South Ayrshire.

We aim to ensure that carers of all ages are identified, supported and able to sustain their caring role.

Our services for unpaid carers are delivered in localities across South Ayrshire and online to make them as accessible as possible.

Who We Are

The Carers Gateway is the new name for the South Ayrshire Carers Centre. The new name better reflects the full range of services we offer and where these are delivered from.

We have staff operating in each of the six localities across South Ayrshire: Prestwick, Troon, Ayr North, Ayr South, North Carrick and South Carrick. We also have a dedicated team supporting young carers on a school cluster basis.

The Gateway team have more than 50 years combined experience of supporting unpaid carers and some are unpaid carers themselves. We also work with a number of volunteers who are helping us reach more carers and in new ways.

We do our best when we work in partnership with others.  As well as our strategic partnership with South Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership  we collaborate with scores of national and local organisations to better identify and support unpaid carers wherever they are.

How We Got Here

The Carers Gateway is operated by a charity and social enterprise called Unity. We have been supporting South Ayrshire’s unpaid carers for more than 20 years.

The Unity Logo which is 5 brightly coloured abstract figures with their hands aloft and the tagline "Equality, Inclusion, Opportunity"

As well as supporting carers in South Ayrshire, Unity also operates separate Carers Gateway services in North Ayrshire and Inverclyde. Unity also runs services to support adults with learning disabilities in Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde.

Unity was founded in 1989 to help people who are disadvantaged or at risk of exclusion in the West of Scotland. We believe in fair and inclusive communities where everyone is valued and has opportunities to fulfil their potential.
